Best Jason Bourne quote, EVER

You didn’t hear the best Jason Bourne quote in the movie versions. After all, the big screen Bourne is not the cerebral and intriguing character created by author Robert Ludlum in the original Bourne trilogy.

Yes, both the book character and the movie character possess incredible survival skills. But the book Bourne often relied on a unique weapon: sleep. Bourne knew if he was going to outwit the Jackal and regain his memory, he had to sleep.

Sleep is a weapon for many daily battles: oversensitivity, overeating, overworking. We know we shouldn’t deprive ourselves of a good night’s sleep, yet our actions ignore sleep’s vital importance. “Sleep: Protect the Asset” is chapter 8’s title in Greg McKeown’s Essentialism. Although McKeown doesn’t quote Bourne, he presents well-researched arguments about why a good night’s sleep is essential to protecting an organization’s best assets: its people.

The habit of seven to eight hours of sleep enhances creativity, productivity, problem-solving, and overall well-being. McKeown encourages written policies to discourage sleep deprivation. “After all, many companies have policies addressing alcohol consumption, and, as we have seen, the parallels in how alcohol and sleep deprivation affect performance are real.”

So what’s the best Jason Bourne quote EVER? “Sleep is a weapon.” Sleep defends our personal assets of mental and physical health. Educate and encourage your people about the critical importance of sleep. It’s powerful.
